Save links
You can save a link with the extension button in your browser, with New link in the app, or by pasting or dropping it on the list. This page covers each way, and how to edit a bookmark once it is saved.
Save a page from your browser#
Open a page and click the Koona Pin button on the toolbar. The link goes to your Inbox, and a short note on the page confirms it:
- Saved to Koona Pin, with Added to Inbox.
- Already in Koona Pin, with Your tags and notes are unchanged, when you saved the page before. Nothing is duplicated.
- Waiting for Koona Pin, when the app can’t take the link yet. See below.
Only web pages (addresses that start with http or https) can be saved, not a browser’s own pages such as a new tab. The extension sends only the address and the title of the page. It doesn’t read the page.
The button hops when it saves. To turn off the note or the hop, open the extension’s settings (below) and use Show a message on the page and Animate the button under After saving. The button stays still when your system asks for less motion.
Tip: Haven’t added the extension yet? See Get started.
When Koona Pin is closed#
You don’t need the app window open. If Koona Pin is closed, saving a page starts it in the tray (the menu bar on a Mac) and saves the link.
If the app can’t answer, the link waits in the browser, and the extension sends it again about once a minute and when the browser starts. Nothing is lost. While links wait, the button shows a clock and its tooltip says how many are waiting.
To see the queue, open the extension’s settings:
- In Chrome and Edge, right-click the button and open the extension’s options.
- In Firefox and Safari, right-click the button and choose Settings and queue.
There, Connection shows the app’s state with Check again, and Waiting to be sent lists each waiting link with Send now and Remove.
See that a page is already saved#
The extension can mark its button when the page you’re on is already in your library. It is off by default.
- Open the extension’s settings, as above.
- Under After saving, turn on Show that a page is already saved.
- Allow access to your tabs when the browser asks.
Now, on a saved page, the button changes and its tooltip says This link is already in Koona Pin. The check happens on your computer, and only while Koona Pin is running. Safari doesn’t offer this setting.
Save to Reading#
Send a page straight to your Reading list, to read later in reading mode:
- Right-click a page and choose Save page to Reading.
- Right-click a link and choose Save link to Reading.
- Press AltShiftR⌥⇧R on the page.
The note says Saved to Reading, with Also waiting in Inbox: the link waits in Inbox like any new link. A page you saved before only gets Added to Reading.
Find a link from the browser#
The extension has a small search over your library, so you don’t have to switch to the app.
- Press AltShiftD⌥⇧D, or right-click the button and choose Find a link.
- Type to search. All, Inbox and Favorites choose where to look. The Trash is never searched.
- ↑ and ↓ move through the results. EnterReturn opens a link in a new tab, ShiftEnter⇧Return in the current tab, and CtrlC⌘C copies it. Esc closes the search.
With nothing typed, it shows what you saved recently. If Koona Pin is closed, the search starts it.
To change the two shortcuts, use the browser’s extension shortcuts page in Chrome and Edge, or Change in the extension’s settings in Firefox. Safari doesn’t allow changing them.
Add a link in the app#
Click New link at the top of the sidebar, or press CtrlN⌘N.

- Paste or type the link into the large field. If a link is on your clipboard and the system lets Koona Pin read it, the sheet offers it: In the clipboard: with Add it.
- A pasted link shows the page’s real title and picture before you save. If it is already in your library, the sheet says Already in your library and offers Show it.
- Under Where it goes, choose Library, Inbox or Reading. The sheet starts with the section you are in.
- Click a collection to file the link there, or click it again to leave it without one. In a collection, the sheet picks that collection; elsewhere it suggests one when your other links from the same site are there. Links that go to Inbox get no collection.
- Open Title and tags to set your own title and tags.
- Press EnterReturn or click Save link. Esc closes the sheet.
A note says Saved to and the place, with Undo. Undoing removes the new link for good.
If the site has a feed, the sheet offers to follow it as well, and the button reads Save and follow. See Follow a site.
Paste or drop a link#
You can also skip the sheet:
- Paste. With a link on your clipboard, press CtrlV⌘V anywhere in the library. Koona Pin saves it at once where you are: into the open collection, into Inbox, or into Reading. In a text field, paste works as usual.
- Drop. Drag a link from a web page and drop it on the list. The list shows Drop to save the link and where it goes. Hold Shift⇧ while you drop to send it to Inbox.
Each save shows a note with Undo. If the link is already in your library, the note says so and nothing changes.
Note: A dropped file isn’t saved as a link: Koona Pin offers to import it instead. See Import, export and backups.
What gets saved#
Koona Pin keeps the address and the date, then reads the page from its website for its title, description, preview picture, icon and site name. A link without a picture shows the site’s name on its cover. Pictures and icons are kept on your computer, so cards show them without a connection. If you change the title before the page is read, your title stays.
Edit a bookmark#
Open the card menu (the ⋯ on a card, or a right-click) and choose Edit…. You can change the Title (it can’t be empty), the Collection, the Tags and a Note for what you want to remember.
Click Save or press CtrlEnter⌘Return. Cancel or Esc closes the editor without saving. The link at the top of the editor opens the page in your browser, and Move to trash sits at the bottom. More in Organize your library.
