Inbox and triage
New links wait in Inbox until you decide what to do with them. This page shows how to sort them quickly, how the bell tells you about new ones, and how the Trash keeps what you delete.
What Inbox is#
Inbox is the first item in the sidebar, with a number for the links waiting. New links arrive there from:
- the browser extension (see Save links),
- New link, when you choose Inbox under Where it goes,
- an import you send to Inbox,
- an AI assistant you’ve connected,
- a feed set to Sort them like Inbox.
A link leaves Inbox once you decide about it: keep it, file it in a collection, add it to Favorites, tag it, edit it or move it to the Trash. Sending it to Reading doesn’t count. An empty Inbox says All sorted.
You can work through Inbox like any list, or use triage, which is faster.
Sort your inbox one card at a time#
Open Inbox and click Sort at the top. The notification for new links in the bell has the same Sort button.
Sort inbox shows one link as a large card: its picture, site, title and description, and where it came from, such as saved today at 9:41 from Chrome or added by hand. The header shows how far you are, like 1 of 3. Each card needs one decision, then the next one comes forward.
Point at a number on the picture, or tab to it, to see what that part does.

- Sort inbox Where you are in the stack. Each decision brings the next card.
- Finish Stops sorting. Links you haven't decided about stay in Inbox. Esc
- Move to trash The link goes to the Trash, which keeps it for 30 days. ←
- Keep The link stays in your library and leaves Inbox. →
- Favorite Adds the link to Favorites. F
- File it right away Press a collection's number to move the link there. 1
- Tag Adds a tag to the link. T
- More keys Z undoes, Space opens the page, E edits the link.
Keys and buttons#
| Decision | Key | Button |
|---|---|---|
| Keep the link, without a collection | → or EnterReturn | Keep |
| Move the link to the Trash | ← | Move to trash |
| File it in a collection | 1 to 9 | A numbered collection chip |
| Add to or remove from Favorites | F | The heart |
| Add a tag | T | Tag… |
| Edit title, collection, tags or note | E | |
| Open the page in your browser | Space | The picture |
| Undo the last decision | Z | Undo |
| Finish sorting | Esc | Finish |
The keys wait while a dialog or menu is open, or while you type in a field. After each decision, a note such as Kept, Moved to trash or Filed in a collection offers Undo. Keep leaves the link in your library without a collection.
File a link in a collection right away#
Under Or file it right away — press a number, your first nine collections appear as chips, numbered in sidebar order. Press a number or click a chip to file the link and move on.
When most of the links you filed from the same site are in one collection, that collection comes first, as key 1, marked suggested. Hover it to see why.
For a collection without a number, press E and choose it in the editor. No collections yet? See Organize your library.
Favorite, tag or edit a card#
These keep the card on screen, so you can combine them with a decision:
- F adds the link to Favorites, or takes it out again.
- T opens a tag field: type a tag and press EnterReturn.
- E opens the editor. Saving it counts as a decision and moves to the next card. Move to trash there works like ←.
Undo a decision#
Press Z (or CtrlZ⌘Z), or click Undo, to take back the last decision: the card returns with Back in the queue. Press it again to go further back, as far as this sorting session goes. If the link was changed elsewhere in the meantime, the note says it can’t be undone.
Links that arrive while you sort#
A link saved while you sort joins the end of the queue, and the header shows it, like +1 new.
Finish sorting#
After the last card, the screen says Inbox sorted, with how many bookmarks you kept, filed and put in trash. Back to library (EnterReturn) opens All bookmarks, and Undo last decision (Z) brings the last card back.
Esc or Finish stops sorting at any time and takes you back to where you started. What you decided stays decided; the rest waits in Inbox.
The bell#
The bell beside the logo at the top of the sidebar collects notifications. A number on it counts the new ones. Clear all empties the list, and an empty list says Nothing new.
For new links, the bell shows N new in Inbox with small pictures of the newest, and two actions: Sort starts triage, and Hide until new bookmarks arrive hides the notification until another link comes. In a narrow window, where the sidebar is a strip of icons, the Inbox icon gets a dot while links wait.
The bell also tells you about problems with saving from the browser, new posts from feeds and more. See Settings for the full list.
Trash#
Deleted links stay in Trash for 30 days, then they are deleted for good. Each card there shows the time left, like 12 days left, or Deleting soon on the last day.
To move a link to the Trash, choose Move to trash in the card menu, or select it and press Del⌫ (on a Mac, Backspace⌫ works too). Changed your mind? Press CtrlZ⌘Z or click Undo in the note.
Restore a link#
Open the Trash and click Restore on a card, in the card menu, or in the bar for selected links. The link comes back with its note, tags, collection and Favorites mark.
If you save a link from your browser while it is in the Trash, it comes back the same way and waits in Inbox.
Delete forever#
Choose Delete forever… in the card menu, or select links in the Trash and press Del⌫. Confirm with Delete forever. This can’t be undone.
Empty the trash#
Empty trash… at the top of the Trash deletes everything in it, after Koona Pin asks Empty trash? and says how many links will go. This can’t be undone either.
