Keyboard shortcuts

Keys for

You can do almost everything in Koona Pin without the mouse. This page lists every shortcut, grouped by where it works.

Ctrl⌘ is Ctrl on Windows and Linux and ⌘ on a Mac; Alt⌥ is Option (⌥) on a Mac. Letter keys are plain letters: press J, not ShiftJ⇧J. In Inbox triage, reading mode and Feeds they also work by the key’s place on the keyboard, so J still works on a Russian layout, where that key types “о”.

Letter keys and arrows do nothing while you type in a field.

Tip: Hover over a button to see its key in the hint.

Everywhere#

Key What it does
CtrlK⌘K Opens the library and puts the cursor in the search field. Not in reading mode.
CtrlN⌘N Opens New link. Does nothing while another dialog is open.
CtrlZ⌘Z Undoes your last action, for example moving a link to the Trash. In a text field it undoes typing instead. Does nothing while a dialog, a menu or the bookmark editor is open.
CtrlV⌘V In the library, with a web address on the clipboard, saves that link at once. Not in a text field, and not while a dialog, a menu, Inbox triage, reading mode or the editor is open.
CtrlQ⌘Q Quits Koona Pin completely.
Esc Closes the open dialog, menu, panel or the bell’s notification list.

Library and selection#

Click a link to select it. CtrlClick⌘Click adds or removes one, and ShiftClick⇧Click selects everything from the last link you clicked to this one. Dragging from an empty place draws a frame that selects every link it touches; a click on an empty place clears the selection.

Key What it does
←, →, ↑, ↓ Move the selection to the next link. In the list view only ↑ and ↓ move. Works from the list, not from the sidebar, the toolbar or a field.
ShiftArrow keys⇧Arrow keys Extends the selection to the link the arrow reaches, as ShiftClick⇧Click does.
CtrlA⌘A Selects every link the list shows, including those not loaded yet.
Esc Clears the selection. In the search field, Esc first clears the query, then leaves the field.
Space Opens the selected link (or the focused card) in a reading sheet over the library. With several selected, ↑ and ↓ move between them; Esc closes the sheet. Not in the Trash.
EnterReturn On a focused card or row, opens the link the way Open links in Settings says: in the browser or in reading mode. A double-click does the same.
R Sends the selected links to Reading, or takes them out when you are looking at Reading. Not in the Trash.
Del⌫ Moves the selected links to the Trash. In the Trash, asks whether to delete them for good. On a Mac, ⌘⌫ works too.
Esc (while dragging) Cancels the drag.

A card’s menu opens with a right-click, the Menu key, or ShiftF10⇧F10 on a focused card. In any menu:

Key What it does
↑, ↓ Move between items. Home and End jump to the first and last.
EnterReturn Chooses the highlighted item.
→ Opens a submenu. ← or Esc closes it.
Esc Closes the menu.

Items of the card menu show their key on the right. While the menu is open, pressing the key chooses the item:

↑, ↓ In the Tag field of the selection bar, move through the tag suggestions. Esc closes the field, here and in triage.
CtrlEnter⌘Return Saves the bookmark editor, or sends the feedback message.
Esc Closes the bookmark editor.
←, → In a row of choices, such as Theme in Settings, move to the next choice.

Feeds#

Key What it does
J or ↓ Next post.
K or ↑ Previous post. When the article has the focus, the arrows scroll it, and only J and K change the post.
EnterReturn or Space Moves the focus into the open post, so the arrows scroll it. With no post open, opens the first.
Esc From the article, goes back to the list. In the feeds search field, clears the search, then closes it.
S Save the post as a bookmark.
R Read later: saves the post to Reading. Again on a post already in Reading takes it out.
F Favorite: saves the post to Favorites. Again takes it off.
O Open in browser.
U Marks the post read or unread.
E Expand the article over the list, or Show the list again. Only in a wide window.
ShiftA⇧A Mark all read, for the feed you are in or for all feeds.

AltShiftR⌥⇧R Saves the current page to Reading.
AltShiftD⌥⇧D Opens a quick search over your library.

In the quick search:

Key What it does
↑, ↓ Choose a result.
EnterReturn Opens it in a new tab.
ShiftEnter⇧Return Opens it in the current tab.
CtrlC⌘C Copies the chosen link, unless you have selected text in the search field.
Esc Closes the search.

Change the extension’s shortcuts#

Open the extension’s settings and find Keyboard shortcut.

  • Chrome and Edge: click Change in Chrome (or Change in Edge) and set the keys on the browser’s own shortcuts page.
  • Firefox: click Change, then press the new keys. A shortcut needs Ctrl or Alt, not both, with a letter, a digit or F1 to F12. If Firefox refuses the keys, it says so; try another combination.
  • Safari: the shortcuts can’t be changed, because Safari has no page for them.
