Koona Pin

Changelog

What changed in each version, newest first. Koona Pin shows the same list before it updates.

  1. 2.3.0

    17 October 2026

    Latest
    • Feeds: faster loading and unread counts in large feed libraries, with less repeated processing of article text while reading.
  2. 2.2.0

    17 October 2026

    • Feeds: the article sits on a card again, its bottom running on below the window; at its end «Next story» (J) flies the card up and brings the next post in from where it peeked, and «Previous story» (K) goes back.
    • Feeds: the expand button, or E, spreads the article over the list up to the sidebar; E again or Esc brings the list back.
    • Feeds: the source is a glass pill, the date line stands apart from the text, the text is a step smaller and the picture a little wider than it.
  3. 2.1.3

    17 October 2026

    • Feeds: the article now fills the page to the window's edge instead of sitting on a rounded card, and the back arrow shows only in a narrow window, where it returns to the list.
  4. 2.1.2

    16 October 2026

    • Sidebar: long feed and collection names stay inside the sidebar again and fade out softly at its edge, and the unread counts beside them are no longer cut off.
  5. 2.1.1

    16 October 2026

    • Linux: the window no longer comes up blank on some computers drawing without a graphics card; there the toolbar and the sidebar's footer are plain colour instead of frosted glass.
  6. 2.1.0

    16 October 2026

    • On a Mac the window has no grey title bar of its own: the traffic lights sit on the app, in line with the toolbar, and the window drags by the toolbar and the top of the sidebar.
    • The sidebar keeps the logo, «New link» and the sections in place; feeds, collections and tags scroll between them and slip under a frosted footer, without a scrollbar flashing as reading mode opens.
    • The toolbar and the reading bar are frosted glass: cards and text scroll under them and show through softly, as in Safari.
    • A title, a double-click and Enter now open a bookmark in reading mode; «In browser» is still one click away in Settings → Reading.
    • A new library starts in the compact grid.
    • Dialogs open the way «New link» does: frosted glass over a softly blurred window.
    • A click on the logo takes you to All bookmarks.
    • Buttons, headings, cards and settings no longer get selected like text on a web page when you click and drag; the article you read, notes and fields still select as before.
  7. 2.0.1

    16 October 2026

    • Feeds: follow a site's RSS, Atom or JSON feed and read its new posts in Koona Pin, in three columns — your feeds in the sidebar, the posts, and the article in a calm sheet set like reading mode. Feeds are free.
    • Paste a link into «New link»: you see the page's real title and picture before you save, and when the site has a feed, a «Follow» switch (off until you turn it on) and where new posts go — only to Feeds, into the Inbox to sort like other new links, or with a notification too.
    • A post becomes a bookmark only when you keep it: S saves it to the library, R to Reading, F to Favorites, O opens it in the browser; J and K move through the list, U marks it read or unread. Unsaved posts are kept for 30 days.
    • The app fetches feeds itself, straight from the sites, about once an hour or as often as you choose in Settings → Feeds; nothing goes through a server. With no network, the posts already fetched stay readable.
    • Import and export your feeds as OPML, from «More» or Settings → Feeds.
    • With Supporter sync, the feeds you follow travel between your computers; posts and read marks stay on each one. Update every computer to 2.0: sync pauses between 1.x and 2.0 until both are updated.
    • Drag selected bookmarks onto Favorites or Reading in the sidebar to star them or send them to Reading, as you already could onto a collection, a tag or Trash.
  8. 2.0.0

  9. 1.10.0

    16 October 2026

    • The search is one field in the toolbar in every window, so the sidebar has room for «New link» and your collections.
    • In the Inbox, a small card shows the newest bookmarks, how many wait and where they came from, with «Sort»; it stays until the Inbox is empty.
    • The notification panel always opens above the library and the sidebar, scrollbars included.
    • A notification no longer says «2,559 days ago» for bookmarks imported from a browser: times show only for the last week.
    • Settings → Data can refresh the previews of all bookmarks, or only those without a picture or site name, and selected bookmarks can be refreshed from the selection bar; imported bookmarks get their pictures, icons and site names in the background right after an import, and pages that don't open go to the link check, whose result shows in the notifications.
  10. 1.9.0

    16 October 2026

    • Sorting the Inbox is calmer: the bookmark sits on a stack of the next ones, and one capsule decides with «← Move to trash | Keep →» and the heart. A short note at the bottom says what Z will undo.
    • Collections show as rounded chips with their number, and the suggested one is edged in its own colour. Collection colours are clearer in both themes.
    • When the Inbox is sorted, three tiles count what you kept, filed and moved to the trash.
    • A bell in the sidebar collects new bookmarks waiting in the Inbox, the offer to import from your browser and problems with saving from the browser. The library no longer shows banners for them.
    • «New link» is at the top of the sidebar (⌘N or Ctrl N). It shows a preview, saves straight to the library, the Inbox or Reading, and offers the collection where links from that site usually go.
    • Paste a link anywhere in the library with ⌘V or Ctrl V to save it at once, or drag a link onto the window; hold Shift to send it to the Inbox.
    • Collections and Tags in the sidebar fold away with a click on their heading.
  11. 1.8.0

    16 October 2026

    • Cards look calmer: Open, Read and ⋯ are small glass buttons in the top-right corner of a card, with their names in hints.
    • A bookmark without a picture shows the site's own name in large type across its cover, such as «Serious Eats» or «The Verge». The name comes from the page; until a bookmark is saved again or «Refresh preview» reads it, the domain stands in.
    • A selected card sinks into a frosted frame made of its own picture, with a check in the corner.
    • A compact grid beside Grid and List: smaller cards, more of them in a row.
    • Search moves to the sidebar, under the logo; in a narrow window it stays in the toolbar.
    • The sidebar, toolbar and menus are more precise, the ⋯ menu is frosted glass, and the dark theme is deeper.
    • Saved articles can keep an offline copy of their text and pictures on your computer, to read without a connection. Copies are never uploaded or synced and can be removed in Settings.
    • Sync: computers on 1.8.0 pause sync with computers on an older version until those are updated too.
  12. 1.7.1

    15 October 2026

    • Reading mode: press «Read» to read saved articles in one calm column, without menus or banners, one after another with J and K.
    • A Reading list in the sidebar: send links there with R, from the card menu, or with «Save to Reading» in the browser extension (Alt+Shift+R). Read articles move down and leave after a week.
    • In reading mode, Tab moves between the queue and the article, and ⌫ takes the current article out of Reading.
    • A click now selects a bookmark. The title, the thumbnail and the shutter over a cover open the link, and Space reads it in a sheet over the list.
    • The arrow keys move the selection in the grid and the list; with Shift they extend it.
    • The Aa panel sets text size, column width, theme and font. White and Dark are free; Paper and Sepia come with Supporter.
    • Settings → Reading: open links in the browser or in reading mode, and mark articles as read at the end.
    • With Supporter, your Reading list, reading progress and read state sync between your computers.
    • On a Mac, shortcuts show as ⌘, and ⌫ or ⌘⌫ moves the selected bookmarks to the Trash.
    • A link to a page that redirects elsewhere is saved with the target page's title.
    • Titles of pages in older encodings, such as windows-1251, are saved readable.
    • In Safari, the menu says «Save page to Reading in Koona Pin», and a save no longer fails when Safari refuses to store the queue.
    • The privacy policy now covers Safari, sync and reading mode's page requests.
  13. 1.2.2

    14 October 2026

    • Koona Pin for Mac now updates itself, like on Windows and Linux: it asks before installing and starts again in the new version. This works from this version on, so install it once from koona.app.
  14. 1.2.1

    14 October 2026

    • Koona Pin for Mac is now signed by its developer and checked by Apple, so it opens like any other app: no more Open Anyway in System Settings or commands in Terminal.
    • Safari is the fourth browser: its extension comes with the Mac app, with nothing else to install. Turn it on in Safari → Settings → Extensions and allow it on websites; the button saves the page you are on, as in Chrome, Edge and Firefox. On a Mac, Connect browser now opens on Safari with these steps.
    • The Mac disk image opens to a window that shows where to drag Koona Pin.
  15. 1.1.3

    14 October 2026

    • Sync between your computers, for Supporters. Turn it on in Supporter → Sync between your computers: the first computer becomes the main one, and each other computer joins by signing in with the same email and confirming six digits on the main one. Bookmarks, collections and tags then sync both ways, and a computer that already has a library keeps it and merges it in.
    • Sync is encrypted on your computers before anything leaves them. Koona's server only passes it between your devices: it keeps nothing of your library, and nothing waits on it for a computer that is offline.
    • The main computer adds and removes computers; every computer is told when one is added. Another computer can become the main one when the main one allows it, and if the main one is lost, you can start over from any computer with a code from your email.
    • The Sync window shows each computer with its system, version and last sync, the number of bookmarks, a clock that is off and a version that is too old, with Sync now, Details and Turn off here. Settings → Data has a Sync line too.
    • Restoring a full copy brings back the order of your collections in the sidebar.
    • A copy saved by a newer Koona Pin, with a source this version doesn't know yet, can be restored.
    • The Supporter dialog no longer lists early builds.
    • After this update, an earlier version of Koona Pin can't open the library, so update rather than go back.
  16. 0.12.0

    13 October 2026

    • On a Mac, the browser extension now says that Koona Pin starts in the menu bar, not in a tray, and quick search shows ⌘C for copying a link. This comes with the extension's next update in your browser.
    • Koona Pin for Arch Linux is in the AUR as koonapin-bin, and it follows each release.
    • Getting ready for Safari: the library can now keep links saved from Safari. After this update, an earlier version of Koona Pin can't open the library, so update rather than go back.
  17. 0.11.3

    13 October 2026

    • Koona Pin for macOS is on the downloads page, next to Windows and Linux: a disk image for Macs with Apple Silicon and macOS 15 or later.
    • The macOS disk image and ZIP include a short README on opening Koona Pin the first time: this build is not yet signed with an Apple Developer ID, so macOS asks once.
  18. 0.11.2

    13 October 2026

    • A new app icon: the Koona Pin mark in cream on a green tile, the same in the taskbar, the menu and the window at every size.
    • The free version's row in the sidebar now reads «Support Koona Pin» and no longer gets cut off in most languages.
  19. 0.11.1

    12 October 2026

    • Fedora: the app from the .rpm package now finds its updates. Earlier versions always said they were up to date; install 0.11.1 from the downloads page once, and later versions come by themselves.
  20. 0.11.0

    12 October 2026

    • A new way to become a Supporter: five years paid once, for half the price of five yearly payments. It never renews, so there is nothing to cancel; the Supporter dialog shows until when it is paid.
    • Supporters with a subscription can switch to five years from the Supporter dialog: the five years start when the period you paid for ends, and the subscription stops renewing then, so you lose no day and never pay twice.
  21. 0.10.1

    12 October 2026

    • Signing in with an account that has no active Supporter plan now says so, with a way to see the plans or sign out, instead of closing as if nothing happened.
    • The plans show your prices at once: the dialog no longer opens in dollars and switches to euros a moment later.
  22. 0.10.0

    12 October 2026

    • Your Supporter plan now comes signed by our server, and the app keeps it offline for 30 days after it last reached the server. It checks in the background about once a week, so this only matters if the app stays offline for a month.
    • After this update the app asks the server for your plan once; until it answers, Supporter features wait.
  23. 0.9.1

    12 October 2026

    • A change of plan or a cancellation made in Manage now shows in the app: the Supporter dialog checks the plan when it opens and when you come back from Manage, and the app checks once a week in the background.
  24. 0.9.0

    12 October 2026

    • Supporters can keep their automatic backups in a folder of their choice, such as one that Dropbox or Google Drive keep in the cloud: open Supporter in the sidebar and choose the folder. Every automatic backup is copied there too, and old ones are pruned the same way as on this computer; nothing else in that folder is touched.
    • If the folder can't be reached, the Supporter dialog says so, and the backups on this computer go on as before.
  25. 0.8.1

    12 October 2026

    • Supporter is here: an optional subscription that keeps Koona Pin going, $2 or €2 a month or $20 or €20 a year. Open Support at the bottom of the sidebar.
    • Supporters get a badge in the colour of the season now; sync between your computers, automatic backups to a folder and early builds come in later updates. The free app keeps everything it has.
  26. 0.7.3

    11 October 2026

    • Dialogs keep one size from opening to closing: importing, restoring a copy or a backup, updating the app and sending feedback no longer make the window jump between steps, and the buttons stay where they were.
    • Asking before a library is replaced now happens in the same dialog instead of a second one on top.
    • A long import or restore report scrolls inside the dialog.
  27. 0.7.2

    11 October 2026

    • A right click on an empty spot no longer opens a browser menu with Back, Refresh, Print and Share. Text fields keep their own menu for cut, copy and paste.
    • F5, Ctrl+R, Ctrl+P and Ctrl+S no longer reload, print or save the window as a web page.
  28. 0.7.1

    11 October 2026

    • Connecting Claude Desktop works again: «Save for Claude Desktop…» saves the Koona Pin package to Downloads and shows it. Double-click it, drag it into the Claude Desktop window, or install it from Settings → Extensions → Install Extension… in Claude Desktop.
  29. 0.7.0

    11 October 2026

    • AI assistants on your computer can search your library: Claude Desktop, Claude Code, the ChatGPT desktop app, Cursor and other apps that work with MCP. Turn it on in Settings → AI assistants; it is off until you do.
    • Choose what an assistant may do: only read, or also add links to Inbox, tag them, move them to a collection and mark favorites. Each change can be undone with Ctrl Z, and an assistant can never delete anything.
    • «How to connect…» shows the steps for each assistant with the command or settings to copy; Claude Desktop installs Koona Pin in one click.
    • Links an assistant saves wait in Inbox, marked with its name: «saved from Claude Code».
    • The «Connect browser» window no longer changes its height when you switch between browsers.
  30. 0.6.5

    10 October 2026

    • The browser extension for Edge is in Edge Add-ons. Connect a browser now installs it from there, and Edge keeps it up to date.
  31. 0.6.4

    10 October 2026

    • Connect a browser now installs the Firefox extension from the downloads page on koona.app, the signed version that updates by itself, instead of a temporary add-on.
  32. 0.6.3

    10 October 2026

    • The browser extension for Chrome is in the Chrome Web Store. Connect a browser now installs it from there in Chrome and Edge instead of developer mode, and the store keeps it up to date. Edge asks once to allow extensions from other stores.
  33. 0.6.2

    10 October 2026

    • Koona Pin's code is now licensed under the GNU GPL 3.0 instead of the GNU AGPL 3.0. Nothing changes in how the app works or what it does with your data.
  34. 0.6.1

    9 October 2026

    • A new library starts with fewer links about Koona Pin itself: Koona's apps, how Koona Pin works, then Firefox, Bun and Lunacy.
  35. 0.6.0

    9 October 2026

    • A new library starts with a few links in Inbox: how Koona Pin works, the browser button, what's new, and two good programs, Bun and Lunacy. Sort them in a minute to learn the keys.
    • A new library offers to import your browser bookmarks right away; their folders become collections.
  36. 0.5.1

    9 October 2026

    • Settings → Support links to the licenses of the fonts, icons and libraries Koona Pin is built with.
  37. 0.5.0

    9 October 2026

    • Koona Pin for Linux comes as an AppImage too: one file that runs on other distributions without installing.
    • The AppImage saves links from Chrome, Edge, Chromium and Firefox, starts with the session and updates itself without a password.
  38. 0.4.1

    9 October 2026

    • Settings → Updates links to the changelog of the version you run.
  39. 0.4.0

    9 October 2026

    • The update dialog lists what changed in the new version.
    • Settings → Updates no longer opens a separate release page.
  40. 0.3.5

    9 October 2026

    • On Linux, the start with the session survives a sudden power-off and mends itself if it was cut short.
  41. 0.3.4

    9 October 2026

    • A test release of the update itself; nothing else changed.
  42. 0.3.3

    9 October 2026

    • A test release of the update itself; nothing else changed.
  43. 0.3.2

    9 October 2026

    • Koona Pin checks koona.app once a day for a new version and installs it only when you say so.
    • On Ubuntu, Debian and Fedora the update goes through your system's password prompt; closing it keeps the version you run.
