Privacy Policy
In short
Ko Notes keeps your notes on your Mac and collects nothing about you. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no server of ours.
Your notes
- Your notes are plain Markdown files in the folder you choose (by default "Ko Notes" in your iCloud Drive). If that folder is in iCloud Drive, Apple syncs it under your iCloud account and Apple's privacy policy; Ko Notes itself does not send it anywhere.
- Search, the archive, snapshots of earlier versions and settings are stored on your Mac, in the app's own container.
Processing on your Mac
- Search, titles, autocomplete, dictation and "Expand idea" with Apple Intelligence or with a model you downloaded run on your Mac. Nothing of your notes leaves it.
- Dictation: the microphone is used only while you dictate. The audio is turned into text on your Mac, is never sent anywhere and is never stored; only the text you see is written into your note.
When a note leaves your Mac
Only if you choose a cloud provider in Settings › AI — Claude (Anthropic) with your own API key, or an OpenAI-compatible server you enter — and only after you agree:
- Before the first send to a provider, Ko Notes asks, naming where the note will go. Nothing is sent before you agree.
- What is sent: the note's title and text (or the part you asked about) to that provider, with your key, directly from your Mac. We never receive it.
- That provider's own privacy policy and terms apply to what it receives.
- Settings › AI › "What Left the Mac…" lists every send: time, note title, provider and size, never the text. The list stays on your Mac.
- Your API keys are kept in your Mac's Keychain and go only to the provider they belong to.
Model downloads
When you choose to download a model in Settings, it comes from Hugging Face (huggingface.co). Like any download, this reveals your IP address and ordinary request details (such as the time and the file requested) to Hugging Face, under its privacy policy. No information about you or your notes is sent. Downloads ask first over Low Data Mode or a metered connection.
What we collect
Nothing. Ko Notes contains no analytics, crash reporting, tracking or advertising code, and we have no server that receives your data.
Support e-mail
If you write to us (Settings › General › Support, or "Report This AI Answer…"), your mail app sends what you write from your own address. The prepared message contains the app version and the AI engine, model and answer length — never your note, unless you paste it yourself. We use your message only to answer you.
Children
Ko Notes does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is published at this address with a new date.
